Sweet Tooth Ruth
Come rest ye weary traveler
The night grows dark and long
But my oven’s light is strong
And if you’ll stay I’ll sing you this sad little song
Of a fair maiden’s hist’ry under-baked and done wrong
I think you might just wanna stay
Just for one night, perhaps a day
It’s impolite to turn away
From the toll house Inn
Best not to fight, best to obey
Now take that bite and come stay
At the Tollhouse Inn
Come in.
———
The year was 1938
I was a woman unknown
But I deserved to sit on my throne
So I let Satan take the wheel
He said that he would fix my fate
the whole world would know my name
If just my soul I would disclaim
I signed in blood and sealed the deal
Call me sweet tooth Ruth
I’m callin’ you from the grave
Just call me sweet tooth Ruth
It’s more than sweets that I crave
Then the whole word began to shake
My cookies shipped overseas
They helped to put the troops at ease
Their fame grew and grew
My oven was always set to bake
Finally I would get my due
The devil’s plan was at hand
Just for me he started World War Two
Call me sweet tooth Ruth
I’m callin’ you from the grave
Just call me sweet tooth Ruth
It’s more than sweets that I crave
And then one day I up and died
Satan came to collect his toll
I told him life left me unsatisfied
he ate my soul and then replied:
“Come in, come in, my dear sweet Ruth
The fine print you should have read
You won’t, my dear, in youth find fame
But only when you are dead
You won’t, my dear, in youth find fame
But only when you are dead”
And now, my weary traveler
That’s all there is to tell
Wont you release me from this hell?
For I am trapped eternal ‘til you say my name
Just take one bite of cookie and proudly proclaim:
Sweet tooth Ruth
say my name say my name
I’m callin’ you from the grave
say my name say my name
They call me Sweet Tooth Ruth
say my name say my name
Oh please my soul won’t you save
They call me sweet tooth Ruth
say my name say my name
I’m callin’ you from the grave
say my name say my name
They call me Sweet Tooth Ruth
say my name say my name
Oh please my soul won’t you save
Just say my name
Let me hear you say Ruth!
